RIP is an exhibition that exposes the investigation undertaken by COCO, since 2016, in which we intend to reveal the invisibilization of female and other dissident artists in Uruguay's artistic narrative. The numbers and statistics of the investigation exposed the epistemological violence towards these identities sustained over time. The title of the show is composed of three keywords. R derives from the action of "reviewing" our art history, I intends to "investigate" today's cultural and curatorial practice of the CCE with a gender perspective, and P arises as an invitation to the public to engage in the "proposition" of new actions to change the inequality female artists and other dissident artists possess in the art world. The setting of the gallery space is designed according to these three concepts.
Alongside the exhibition, we destined a space to contain three shows exposing Queer and Afroamerican artists, and investigation of Uruguay's native community. These will be taking place continuously during the months of September, October and December.
Furthermore, we invited renowned artist Margaret Whyte to be part of the exhibit with an installation titled "Ser y no estar".
