Tierra Fértil by Cristina Llambí
In the textile memory captured by Llambí, there is a glimpse of a fabric of resistance, complicity, and unity. The act of embroidery, weaving, and threading is revalued and redefined by the artist as an act of resistance. This collective memory is intervened and presented as a cohesive territory from which life emerges.
The absence of color, along with chlorophyll green, shows us a rebirth of the place where women and nature were once overshadowed. Both figures are symbolically threaded together to move beyond being mere backdrops that contain life. What part of our fabrics will need to be faded to return to a new life? The artist invites us to reflect on the processes that have led us to this moment in history—a moment where, in the words of philosopher Anna L. Tsing, "it is unclear whether life on Earth can continue."
